This qualification establishes proficiency in pool lifeguarding skills for personnel employed in the leisure industry as a swimming pool lifeguard.
The syllabus includes water rescue and life support in line with criteria laid down in the Health and Safety Commission publication ‘Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools’.
ASA Level 1 Certificate For Teaching Swimming
The aims of this qualification are to train and qualify candidates to assist Full Teachers in the delivery of swimming lessons.
ASA Level 2 Certificate For Teaching Swimming
The aims of this qualification are to train and qualify candidates to teach swimming unsupervised.
RLSS Assistant Instructor Course
This course is a natural progression from RLSS Award of Merit and an excellent opportunity to acquire a qualification as the first step on the ladder for teaching lifesaving. It’s also a great way to get primed for other qualifications such as the Rookie Lifeguard Instructor and RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification which can be taken from 16 years old.
On qualification candidates receive an RLSS Assistant Instructor qualification which will allow them to teach in a lifesaving environment. Employment opportunities vary throughout the UK.
The course is delivered in two sections over a range of dates.
In order to participate candidates must
- have RLSS Membership (Youth = £9.50, Ind = £23.50)
- be 14 years or over
- Experience of Lifesaving (ideally Award of Merit with valid Life Support 3 qualification)
- Private individual lessons
Aimed to provide individuals, or small groups of up to two, with an opportunity to improve and develop on a one-to-one (or one-to-two) basis and in an atmosphere appropriate to learning. Classes are 30 minutes to an hour in duration.
