Welsh Varsity usually takes place around Easter, with Swansea and Cardiff hosting the event in alternate years – so keep your diaries clear for the sporting event of the year!
It is the biggest student event in Wales, and is the second largest of the British varsity games, behind Oxford-Cambridge. Varsity sees Swansea and Cardiff universities competing in more than 30 different sports, from basketball, rowing, golf, hockey and swimming, to fencing, squash, and ultimate frisbee.
The event culminates with the showpiece rugby match with typical crowds of 15,000 to 20,000 in a major stadium – usually the Principality in Cardiff or the Liberty in Swansea – and is often broadcast live on TV.
